media develpment

In the media world there are alot of ways people can show there work to people. Over time the way we see media has changed. The first kinds of meida was story telling. story telling people had to be there to hear the person tell the story and sometime they would have to act it out to explain to people this developed in to theater which now a days is still a thing people see live. there are variasion aswell of theater like dance which people go to see live aswell as Opera and live Gigs which is all based an audiences presence. if there was no audiece then band or play would be performing to no one and how would any one hear them. Another place you can see dance and theater is in street performance which need a physical audience to witness and hear them as they are in public places these street performances include dance, short play or busking and the perforamer uses the audience to get more attention as if someone people stop to watch or listen other peoples attention will be drawn to it and more and more people will stop making a large audience . Art is another old media which at first required an audience to come and observe the work as art came in scupltues and painting very formal art but over the years has developed. now art is every were people go it come in all shapes and sizes graffiti is the most common art to see in everyday life now and with the internet people can see art when ever they choose. aslo art is caputed in photos which now are dispayed in there own gallerys and on the internet. another way of poeple seeing art is in comic books. this tells storys but based around pcitures drawn by artist. comic book are a physical objsct that you ahve to go out and purches like buying a music album but you can't download them on a computer you have to buy the phsical item.

Cinema and film have always had an audience present as that what cinemas are a place where people can come to watch a film. to a smaller scale is Television which has a large audience but it spread across in smaller groups of 1-4 maybe more people sitting and watching through a Televison this is the same with watch DVD's Video and even playing video game people have to be there infront of it to witness it and play it. This then bring us to computer were one or a few people sit and you can watch and listen to nearly any kind of meida there has been. it may be live footage but you are wathcing it infront of a screen and not atchally there witnessing it. like if a person goes to see a footabll match they are there in the crowd witnessing the match first had unlike someone who watches it at home they may here the crowd and there reaction but the fact is clear they are not there.

A practitioner who has developed over time in how they show there work is Jamie Hewlett who is a British comic artist of the cult classic Tank Girl as well as being the co founder of the virtual band Gorillaz.
Jamie teamed up with Damon Alburn to create Gorillaz. The first ever virtual band to be created this is one of the biggest steps in animation crossing with music. Jamie had moved on from conventional comic’s book artist to make a big leap to music and creating a virtual band. Jamie moved on the animation for the music video of the band but still did a lot of art work portraying the band in still images. He did the illustrations of the Gorillaz Biography Rise of the Ogre. But I think one of the biggest things Jamie Hewlett has done to adapt his skills is how he converted Gorillaz to a new 3D animation technology where he was able to do live show with is fictional band.

Another large and new influence that has changed media is crossing genres to make sub-genres in music. With and band in today’s world will not come under one particular genes as coming under one gene is old news and people want something new. A prime example of something new in music is Enter Shikari. They made a unique sound by mixing metalcore a sub-genre of metal and trance/electro. This unique style has given them a very large fan base as there music appeals to many different people. As they use synthesisers giving it an electro trance feel mixed with heavy distorted guitar double kick peddles for the drum and growling/scream mixed with clean vocals. This is show how music is starting to evolve together and that people can like music from both side of the spectrum. Most musicians from any gene all appreciate genres that are different from them even though it might not be there thing. A lot of band start to mix with other band to try make better sounds like Linkin park did a collaborate album with Jay-Z even though Linkin park has rapping in it by mixing Jay-z song with there own made a completely new sound.

Media today is continuing to evolve. It took the human race million of years to get were we are today. But with today media has evolve vastly over the last few decades. Even in one year you can list a lot that has changed in the media industry. Film making use to only be done by large film companies as they had the money to be able to distribute it all over the world. But in the last 2 decades that has changed since people have been able to buy video camera people have made there own movies. But never usually had the money to be able to show it to the world. This all changed when digital video cameras come along and the internet allowed people to upload there video. People have been able to share there movies all over the world. This has resulted in large fan bases on the internet and more and more people have been able to show there works on the internet as many more sites are being made specifically for different types of Medias. You get web sites like youtube and vimeo were people can upload there own home made film or short film and people are able to watch with ease and people are able to express there feeling about it to the world as well. There is also websites for artist to show there art work like Divientart and Flicker were artist and photographer are able to show there work to the world and many artist today have become famous because of the internet. On large internet artist is Jeff Thomas also known as Azuzephre who created Pon and Zi and cult cartoon following which is very popular in the “emo art”.

Many other media cults have formed over medias that are on the internet. There are many micro sires on the internet using a wide range of styles machinima (using game/computer animated software to make movies) which has become a popular thing over the internet like Red vs Blue which uses the Halo games

The internet is one of the biggest reason that media as developed so far and its still growing so much is becoming redundant because you can find it on the internet twice as fast and easier. Soon all art form will be broadcast through the internet and film making will all be dependent on making it big on the internet. So will the old ways of media like art galleries and film festivals survive the digital age?
